Local SEO for a clinic
Top of the local map across the whole town, two weeks from launch
A new clinic site and Google Business Profile, measured a fortnight after launch. A 5×5 search grid covering Uckfield returns the clinic first at all twenty-five points for “physiotherapy near me”, while the website itself is still in its first weeks of being indexed.

What they came to us with
The same clinic as our website case study, a year on and looking at a different problem. The site was built and working. The question was whether anybody in the surrounding villages could find the clinic on the map when they searched, or only the people already standing in Uckfield high street.
That distinction matters more than it sounds. A clinic can sit top of the local results at its own front door and vanish three miles out, which produces a diary that fills reliably from one direction and stays empty from every other. Checking it needs measurement across an area rather than a rank checked from one postcode.
What they got
A Business Profile finished properly
- The most precise accurate primary category, rather than the broadest one. It does more work than any other single field on the profile.
- Every treatment listed individually as its own service with its own description, named the way a patient would say it. Most clinic profiles list three services and offer fifteen.
- Opening hours kept correct, including bank holidays, so the “open now” filter never hides the clinic on the day somebody needs it.
- Real photographs of the actual treatment room, the actual entrance and the actual parking, because a stock photo of a model on a couch signals the opposite of what it is meant to.
- The questions people ring and ask, answered on the profile itself: parking, insurers, and whether you need a GP referral first.
A listing that is hard to take away
- The clinic's real business name on the profile, with nothing after it. No town, no specialism, no pipe character. It costs a little early visibility and removes a risk that can take a listing off the map for weeks.
- Name, address and phone number identical character-for-character across the website, the profile and every directory listing.
- More than one person with owner access, so the profile does not become unreachable when somebody leaves or an old email address closes.
- Everything on accounts the clinic owns outright. We work as a user on them, never the owner.
Reviews arriving steadily rather than in batches
- A review request built into the end of an appointment, so it happens as part of the routine rather than when somebody remembers.
- Replies written carefully, without confirming that the reviewer was a patient, because a public reply that does is a confidentiality breach.
- Nothing incentivised and nothing written on a patient's behalf. Since April 2025 that is a matter of UK law rather than platform policy.
Measurement that shows the whole area
- Grid runs rather than a single-point rank check, so the picture covers the villages the clinic draws from instead of one postcode.
- The same runs are published in the read-only explorer on our local SEO page, where any clinic can look at its own area.
- Search Console connected from day one, which is the only reason there is a two-week baseline to show at all.
How we went about it
The map pack and the organic results are two systems on two timescales. Profile changes can show within days; a new website takes months. For a clinic launching, that decides the order the work happens in.
In a market this size the deciding factor is usually which listing was completed rather than which was cleverest. Categories, services, hours, photos and reviews, all the way through.
A rank checked from the clinic's own address tells you almost nothing about a practice whose patients arrive from five directions. Grid runs answer the question the owner actually has.
The grid result and the modest traffic chart get shown together. A result presented without its context is the thing that makes clinic owners distrust this industry.
What we would tell you before you start
Read the two images in the right order. The grid is a real result and it is a result in a small market, where a handful of clinics compete and a finished profile is often enough to lead. The same work in Brighton or Croydon gets you into contention and no further; reviews, differentiation and content decide the rest there.
The website figures are the honest context. Forty-three clicks is a site being indexed, not a site working yet. On these numbers the meaningful organic movement arrives somewhere between months three and six, assuming pages keep being added, and the profile carries the enquiries in the meantime.
Nothing here is a guarantee. Google's own guidance on hiring an SEO names guaranteed rankings as a warning sign, and it is right to. What is repeatable is the checklist rather than the outcome.
